Community Plate invites you to come to The Corner, a free monthly evening of community storytelling held the second Thursday of each month, 7-9pm, at LA Arts in Lewiston.
FEBRUARY THEME: “UNEXPECTED LOVE” Cupid's arrow doth love to strike from directions unanticipated. It's the nature of love to catch us unawares. It's not just romantic love that can come without warning, or wrapped in surprise. Have you ever been listening to the radio and swooned over the lyrics of a random song? Has your dad ever vetoed a pet, or been determined to hate it, only to find himself in love and attached to it? Do you have a story about a place, person, or object you fell in love with--or played a surprising part in your own love story? A bus, perhaps? As the bard (or was it The Troggs?) says, love is all around us. And when we're not looking, when we've sworn it off, when we're in the most random situation, love finds a way in. So come to The Corner in February, you never know what you might find.
As always the themes at The Corner are just a starting point, an opportunity to take a story in any direction. There’s no right or wrong–like Cupid’s arrow, you can’t miss. So come to The Corner in February to tell or listen. You won’t want to miss out.
New to The Corner this year: Bring a dessert to share! In addition to pizza from DaVinci’s, we’ve added a DESSERT POTLUCK! Bring something sweet to share with your fellow storytellers and story listeners.
Each evening of The Corner includes several featured storytellers, who volunteer in advance, and because everyone has a story to tell, an open mic portion, where there is the opportunity for anyone to get up and tell a story. If you would like to be one of our featured storytellers for "Unexpected Love" send us an email at community@communityplate.me
Stories should be five minutes (or less), first person, fundamentally factual, and free of handheld notes. For more information about how to tell a story at The Corner, visit: https://www.cometothecorner.com/tell
The Corner is a free community event. No tickets or reservations required.
